Plantar Plate Tear

plantar plate pain

A plantar plate tear refers to damage to the strong supporting ligament under the toe. When the plantar plate overloads from repetitive movement the ligament tears, which is what actually causes plantar plate pain and can, in worse cases, lead to a misaligned toe that can pop out of place. This is what a plantar plate tear is – when the connective tissue between two bones is torn apart.
